Steps to Accept

For Student Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans

Step 1:  Review and Accept/Decline Your Financial Aid Awards

All students awarded a Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan or Federal Work Study must log into EKU Direct to accept/decline those awards.  The following are the steps to take to review your awards.

  1. Log into EKU Direct
  2. Click on the following links:
    • Student Services and Financial Aid
    • Financial Aid
    • View Awards
    • Accept/Decline Awards
    • Select Award Year 2017-2018 for Fall 2017/Spring 2018
  3. Submit
  4. Review awards and accept/reduce/decline following the instructions

If at any time you wish to have your award changed, you should contact EKU's Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Step 2:  Complete Loan Entrance Counseling

  1. ‘Sign in’ at www.studentloans.gov using the student’s FSA ID
  2. Select ‘Complete Loan Counseling (Entrance, Financial Awareness, Exit)'
  3. Next to 'Entrance Counseling' select 'START'
  4. Add EKU by searching for Kentucky, then Eastern Kentucky University
  5. Click on ‘Notify This School’
  6. Select the appropriate Student Type and ‘Continue’
  7. Read all information and answer questions

NOTE:  If you have previously completed entrance counseling for another school, you can have your confirmation forwarded to EKU.  The student should login at www.studentloans.gov, select 'View My Documents', filter by ‘Counseling’, select 'Sub/Unsub Entrance', and 'Notify Additional School'. Choose EKU from the dropdown menu and ‘Submit’.

Step 3:  Sign a Master Promissory Note

  1. Login at www.studentloans.gov using the student's FSA ID.
  2. Click on 'Complete Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note)'
  3. Next to MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans click 'START'
  4. Provide requested information and submit.

For Parent PLUS Loan

In order to apply for the Federal Parent PLUS loan your parent should complete the following steps:

Step 1: Complete Parent PLUS Preapproval Process

  1. Your parent should ‘Log In’ at www.studentloans.gov using his/her FSA ID
  2. Click on 'Apply for a Direct PLUS Loan'
  3. Scroll down to 'Direct PLUS Loan Application for Parents'
  4. Select 'Start' next to 'Direct PLUS Loan Application for Parents'
  5. Select Aid Year 2017-2018 for Fall 2017/Spring 2018
  6. Provide the requested information and submit

Step 2: Sign Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note

  1. Your parent should ‘Log In’ at www.studentloans.gov using his/her FSA ID
  2. Click on 'Complete Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note)'
  3. Scroll down to PLUS MPN for Parents (3rd option) and next to 'PLUS MPN for Parents' click 'START'
  4. Provide requested information and submit
